Both are probably females.

One of my favourite birds but rarely seen in Sweden. They breed in the northern mountainrange.

  3. I think you would have to be a genius to remember the names of all the birds in the world. Every time I go through this meme, I see another bird I have never heard of and, they are inevitably amazing. What a gorgeous and unusual bird, Monica ... I love these pictures.

  13. The bird itself is beautiful, I love those color ; but I find the name of it in your language very poetical ; I'm wondering what it means in your language, in fact.

    Thanks for this lovely sharing.

    1. re your question the poetic swedish name "Smalnäbbad simsnäppa" would be, if translated straight of: "Narrowbilled swim sandpiper" :)

    2. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer me !

I find the sound more poetical than the actual translation in English... ^^ I guess it is because it is a graphical arrangment of letters I'm not used to, as a Frenchie. It looks exotical, and it sound even more pleasant because I have no idea of its meaning... (Well now, I does. ^^)

I take a huge interest in languages ; I'm always interested in the way things sounds and means in other people's mother tongues, cause language is the base of culture : you can imagine a lot about people you don't know by their language, I think.

  15. Oh just how epic is this bird up close??? Pretty epic! We get the Red-necked Phalarope here during migration and it's usually too far to spot. But you've got great pics!
